Minecraft Server is Lagging Print

If your Minecraft Server is Having Lag issues, there are a few things to check and steps to take to try and fix it.

If you are getting lag or others are complaining of lag there is a number of reasons for lag to happen.

Step 1: What kind of lag is it? Is it Block Lag? Is it frame rate lag? Is it chat lag?

Step 2: Who is having lag, if you personally do not have lag but someone else has lag it is a fault with either their connection or their PC.

Resolving Lag: The most likely reasons for lag, is if you have plugins on your server. If you pick the right plugins you can run 20 good plugins on 1GB of RAM with no problems but if you choose one bad plugin, 1 plugin can lag your server. I recommend logging in with your Multicraft Panel and clicking the console and looking for errors, within the error the Plugin name will appear. This way you can see which plugin is causing the problem and either update it or remove it.

Another Likely reason for lag, is you have built a lag machine, a few examples of this are lots of pistons all working, basically lots of block changes. This results in FPS lag which is a fault with your PC. Also if you have a custom mod pack running with lots of machines then that could be a reason for the lag too.

3. Check Your Server Console in Multicraft
 - Do you see any errors like below?
[WARNING]Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded?
Try Restarting Your Server to see if that helps, or Spawn a New World in Multicraft to see if the lag is world related or not.

[WARNING]Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded?
Exception in thread "Server thread" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
Exception in thread "Listen thread" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
You may have run out of Memory for your server to run the required world / plugins / mods. You may want to think about upgrading your server plan to increase your ram

4. Are you running a certain modpack or Server Type like FTB or Tekkit?
 - If Yes then try the following Steps
 - Restart Your server in multicraft, see if that helps the lag
 - To see if it is a world corruption issue Spawn a New World in Multicraft to see if the lag is world related or not.
 - To test this, type in a new name in the world field in multicraft, save changes and restart the server and see if that makes a difference.
      - If the Lag is world related you may want to load a backup of your server from the previous day before the lag / corruption issue occured.
          - To load a backup of your world follow these steps

To decide if it is Server Lag or if it is your PC, if you destroy a Block and their is lag, this is known as Server Lag. I recommend if you cannot find a fault with the above options please contact Technical Support.

Top Tip: Before contacting Customer Support make sure you understand what kind of lag it is and if it is affecting everyone including yourself.
